February 16, 1935 – January 25, 2016
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Spiz John Rompala. He passed away on January 25th with his family by his side.
John was a loving and dedicated son, husband, brother, father and grandfather. He was married to the love of his life Anne for over 50 years. His love for his family was evident in his close relationships with his children and grandchildren.
Dad was a fantastic cook and his hospitality was legendary to those who met him. His house was a place where everyone always felt welcome.
John’s career began during the golden age of air travel in the 1960s with Eastern Airlines and later with Bell Helicopter. Throughout his life, he would enthusiastically share stories about planes, helicopters and his adventures with his friends and colleagues. A longtime member of Briarwood Pool and Pointe Claire Yacht Club, Dad was an avid sailor and skier who fostered a love for these and many other sports and hobbies in his kids and grandkids. Dad was also a history buff with an encyclopedic knowledge of world history matched by few.
He is survived by his wife Anne, sons Steve and Michael, daughter Jayne, daughters-in-law Ursula and Lisa, grandchildren Ancilla, Martina, and Hanna (The Dollies), Kyle, Karl, and Curtis (The Young Wolves), nephew Terry, niece Angela and their children. John was predeceased by his father John, mother Rose, sister Wanda, and niece Christine.
Rest in Peace Pop. We will miss you tremendously and you will always be anchored in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made in his memory to the AQVA, Association Quebecoise de Voile Adapte (aqvaqc.com) or to The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
