

Theresa Gayle Benedek, a respected financial professional and community leader, and passionate advocate for opportunity and education, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of excellence, generosity, and leadership. She was born on August 5, 1932, in Kingston Jamaica, and lived in Montreal, Quebec, Canada for most of her adult life.
Theresa built a distinguished career in the financial world, earning recognition as a highly regarded money manager known for her integrity, insight, and disciplined approach. Throughout her professional life, she broke barriers with quiet determination and became a trusted figure among colleagues and clients alike. Her work not only reflected professional success but also a commitment to opening doors for others.
A proud founding member of the Montreal Association for Black Business Persons and Professionals (MABBP), Theresa played an instrumental role in fostering entrepreneurship, mentorship, and economic empowerment within Montreal’s Black business community.
Theresa also spearheaded the creation of the Black Academic Scholarship Fund (BASF), reflecting her deep belief in education as a catalyst for opportunity. Through this initiative, she helped support students in pursuing their academic ambitions, ensuring her impact would be felt for years to come.
Beyond her professional and community achievements, Theresa was known for her warmth, elegance, and love of life. She delighted in traveling the world, embracing new cultures and experiences, and she found great joy in entertaining family and friends. Her gatherings were marked by laughter, thoughtful conversation, luscious libations and a welcoming spirit that made everyone feel at home.
Theresa Gayle Benedek will be remembered for her intelligence, generosity, leadership, and enduring commitment to uplifting others. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched, the institutions she helped build, and the community she strengthened through her vision and compassion. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
