It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Voegeli Juste-Constant, who peacefully left us on Thursday July 20th 2023 at the age of 76.

Voegeli Juste-Constant was born on November 1, 1946, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He was a man of immense talent and a lifelong seeker of knowledge. His educational journey was one of determination and passion for learning, which led him to diverse institutions across continents.

After completing his early education in Port-au-Prince, Voegeli Juste-Constant’s thirst for knowledge took him to the “Faculté d’Ethnologie de l’Université d’État d’Haïti” (Faculty of Ethnology at the State University of Haiti). There, he immersed himself in the field of anthropology, sparking a life-long interest in understanding cultures and societies.

In pursuit of specialized studies in ethnomusicology and folklore, Voegeli Juste-Constant ventured to “El Instituto de Etnomusicologia y Folklore” (Inidef) in Caracas, Venezuela. This experience exposed him to the rich and diverse musical traditions of different cultures, which further influenced his artistic and educational endeavors.

With a keen interest in music and teaching, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Music Teaching from the “Module de Musique de l’UQAM” (University of Quebec in Montreal). His passion for understanding different languages and cultures led him to pursue a specialized bachelor’s degree in Translation (English-French, French-English) from the “Faculté des arts et des sciences de l’Université de Montréal” (Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the University of Montreal).

Eager to delve deeper into the world of music, he pursued a Master of Arts in musicology from the “Faculté de Musique de l’Université de Montréal” (Faculty of Music at the University of Montreal). His master’s research delved into the cultural significance of music in various societies, further fueling his appreciation for the diversity of human expression.

The pursuit of knowledge did not stop there, as Voegeli Juste-Constant’s thirst for understanding and contributing to the world continued to grow. He went on to achieve a doctorate in Arts, with the conferred degree of Philosophiae doctor (Ph.D.), from the “Faculté des études supérieures de l’Université de Montréal” (Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Montreal).

In Toronto, Canada, he expanded his teaching qualifications, obtaining Additional Qualifications in French as a Second Language (FSL), English as a Second Language (ESL), and religious studies from York University and the University of Toronto.

Besides his remarkable academic achievements, Voegeli Juste-Constant was a devoted and loving father. Tragedy struck in 1986 when he lost his beloved wife, leaving him to single-handedly raise their two young boys, aged 4 and 6 at the time. With unwavering dedication, Voegeli Juste-Constant embraced the role of both mother and father, providing his sons with love, care, and the best possible upbringing.

Throughout his life, Voegeli Juste-Constant continued to inspire those around him with his resilience, empathy, and dedication to family. He was not only an educator but also a pillar of strength and support for his children, ensuring they received a nurturing environment to grow and thrive.

The Impact of Voegeli Juste-Constant’s life and legacy will continue to inspire future generations. His memory will forever be cherished by all whose lives he touched.

Voegeli Juste-Constant leaves behind a legacy of learning, creativity, advocacy for equity and social justice, and the enduring love of a devoted father. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, students, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The funeral service In honor of Voegeli Juste-Constant will take place on July 30th from 12 PM to 2PM at the Centre funéraire Côte-des-Neiges, located at 4525 Chem. De la Côte des Neiges, Montréal, QC H3V 1E7

C'est avec une profonde tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de notre cher Voegeli Juste-Constant, survenu le 20 juillet 2023 à l'âge de 76 ans. Il nous a quitté paisiblement, laissant derrière lui un héritage inestimable.

Né le 1er novembre 1946, Voegeli Juste-Constant était un homme remarquable, passionné par la recherche du savoir et de la connaissance. Son parcours éducatif fut jalonné de succès et de détermination, l'emmenant à travers différents continents pour étudier et comprendre les cultures et les sociétés.

Après des études primaires et secondaires à Port-au-Prince, il poursuivit sa quête de connaissances à la "Faculté d’Ethnologie de l’Université d’État d’Haïti", plongeant ainsi dans le monde de l'anthropologie.

Sa soif de savoir le conduisit à "El Instituto de Etnomusicologia y Folklore" à Caracas, Venezuela, où il s'immergea dans les riches traditions musicales de différentes cultures.

Passionné par la musique et l'enseignement, il obtint un diplôme en Enseignement de la Musique à la "Module de Musique de l’UQAM" (Université du Québec à Montréal) et se spécialisa en Traduction (Anglais-Français, Français-Anglais) à la "Faculté des arts et des sciences de l’Université de Montréal".

Sa soif de connaissances ne s'arrêta pas là, car il obtint un doctorat en Arts avec le titre de Philosophiae doctor (Ph.D.) de la "Faculté des études supérieures de l’Université de Montréal".

Au-delà de ses réalisations académiques, Voegeli Juste-Constant fut également un père dévoué et aimant. En 1986, la tragédie le frappa lorsqu'il perdit sa bien-aimée épouse, laissant derrière lui deux jeunes garçons âgés de 6 et 4 ans. Malgré cette épreuve, il assuma avec amour et dévouement le rôle de mère et de père, veillant sur leurs vies avec une tendresse infinie.

Sa vie fut marquée par sa passion pour l'enseignement et son dévouement envers ses élèves. Son héritage perdurera à travers tous ceux qu'il a inspirés et guidés tout au long de sa carrière.

Une cérémonie funéraire en l'honneur de Voegeli Juste-Constant aura lieu le dimanche 30 juillet à 12h au Centre funéraire Côte-des-Neiges, situé au 4525 Chem. de la Côte des Neiges, Montréal, QC H3V 1E7.
