

Crocifisso R. “Ray” Carano of Montrose, NY passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at the age of 92. Ray was born to the late Salvatore and Concettina Carano on August 3, 1929 in Peekskill, NY. He served in the United States Air Force from 1950 until 1954. After completing his service with the Air Force, Ray joined the Air National Guard. He worked in Aircraft Maintenance for 30 additional years retiring from Stewart Air National Guard Base as a Chief Master Sargent. Ray married the love of his life, Barbara Ronan on May 24, 1952 at Assumption Church in Peekskill. They were married for 67 years before Barbara’s passing in December 2019.
Ray was a member of the Cortlandt Engine Company, Westchester Model A Ford Club, and the American Legion. He loved building radio controlled model airplanes, traveling to his cabin in the Adirondacks and to the Jersey Shore. Ray was a Patriot who loved his country. Ray and Barbara enjoyed square dancing for years with the Tarry Squares.
Ray was deeply dedicated to his family. He was a gentle and loving man who will be deeply missed by his family.
Ray is survived by his loving children Michael Carano (Lynn), Linda Westlake (Warren), Susan Mitchell (late Bruce Mitchell), and Gary Carano (Gwen Cianfaglione), cherished grandchildren Liz Larson, Emily Westlake, Lindsey Toia, Adam Carano, and Michelle Monroy, adored great grandchildren Michael, Joseph, Timothy, and Emma Larson, Cameron Scott, and Nikki, Andy, and Joseph Toia. He is also survived by his caring sisters Dolly Pericelli, Jo Hurt, and Tina Hakoum.
Ray is predeceased in death by his beloved wife Barbara Carano, by his son David Carano, and by his grandson Joshua Westlake.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 11, 2022 from 5-8PM at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 170 Kings Ferry Rd., Montrose, NY. A Service will be held at 7PM during the visitation at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home with Rev Pallmann from Annsville Baptist Church presiding. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10AM on Tuesday, April 12th at St. Christopher’s Church, Buchanan, NY with burial to follow at Assumption Cemetery, Cortlandt Manor, NY.
