Frances Marafioti Hitchcock was born and raised in Verplanck, NY to a large loving family. She lived a simple life. Frances never had or expected too much from anyone or anything. She was a homemaker who enjoyed her family and friends very much. She spent most of her life raising her family, with her longtime partner Larry Newman, in Peekskill.
Frances, Larry, and the kids enjoyed many weekends in Croton with Larry’s family. Her biggest joy was to have her family and friends with her. She enjoyed her Mom visiting nearly every day to spend time with her and her kids in Peekskill. Through her times of struggle, Frances has always managed to try to keep a smile on her face and stay strong. She was brought up Catholic and kept a strong faith in God.
Frances enjoyed all 12 of her grandchildren and her 2 great grandchildren. Her grandson Nathaniel had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with her and Grandpa Larry. The time spent with Nathaniel was always cherished. She was very proud of all her grandchildren as well as her many nieces and nephews.
Small things to most were the big things to her such as going out to eat with her son Henry and his wife Dawn in South Kortright. Frances also enjoyed going to her daughter MaryLou and Jimmy’s. With MaryLou, Frances enjoyed getting her hair done and shopping. While visiting her daughter Shannon and Mike’s, the kids kept her happy. She enjoyed being outdoors at night with her daughter Evelyn, Charlie, and friends, in Wingdale where for the past two years you could find Frances by a lit fire in the midst of good conversation. She loved to talk! At times she was told to SH SH SH! The quiet only lasted long enough to catch her breath and talking start again! She would say, “This is too quiet! Someone has to talk!” She enjoyed talking on the phone with her daughter Lisa, her niece Diane, her brothers, and her sister-in-laws.
With the exception of Rocky, Frances’ brothers Vinny, Domenic (Mecko), Johnny, Jerry, and Salvatore all lived in other states. They all kept in touch with her even though they were miles away. She was blessed to have such a loving family. Frances’ brother Rocky always made her laugh with his great sense of humor. Thanks to Uncle Rocky, we will never forget “Dr.Botta, Botta way!”
Frances passed peacefully with her family by her side when the Angels came to take her. She is up there, talking to Larry (as if he hasn’t heard enough!) her brother’s Angelo, Joey, Tommy and Frankie and her sister’s Rosie and Phyllis along with her longtime friend’s Dottie and Marilyn (Bunk) who Frances played Yahtzee and piano with. Frances is loved and missed by many, more than words can say.
