

Joan Ellen Farmer, born March 12th, 1933, passed away peacefully in Croton-on-Hudson, NY on December 10th, 2025. She was born March 12th, 1933 as Joan Ellen Markley to Elsie (Sedgwick) Markley and Christian Donald Markley in Montrose, NY. Joan was the oldest of 3 siblings. She was preceded in death by her brother, George Markley of Peekskill, NY. She is survived by her sisters Christine Markley of Brewster, NY and Anne Grismer of Savannah, GA.
Joan married Joseph A. Albanese, who passed in 2012. They were married for 25 years. They had 4 children, Lisa Welch of Verplanck, Joseph Keith Albanese (died Oct. 4th, 1981), Robert F Albanese of Cold Spring, NY and Kathryn M. Alter of Big Lake, Alaska. Joan graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School. She worked at Butterfield hospital as a receptionist and at Diet Watchers as a lecturer. She started her own business called Right Way Diet Plan in the mid-seventies. She also worked as a salesperson.
After her divorce, she was remarried to Harold Farmer "Buck" (deceased) of Catskill NY. They traveled for many years managing campgrounds in Rhode Island, New Jersey, the Delmarva Peninsula, and the Florida Keys. They retired to Robbinsville, NC, where she loved to quilt and spoil her dog, Mitzi. After the passing of her husband, Joan returned to New York, living in Verplanck, then Yorktown Heights. She spent her last year at Skyview, overlooking her beloved Hudson River.
Joan was cremated at Edward F Carter Funeral home in Montrose, NY.
Interment is planned at a later date at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville NY, next to her husband, Harold.
