Helen Marie Pearson was born on June 21, 1942 in Paducah, Kentucky to her mother Margarie Neil Harris and father Raymond Smith, but was raised by her great grandmother Nona. Since Helen was raised in a Christian home, she received Jesus Christ as her Lord and savior and had kept her Christian values to live a holy life until her passing.
In 1962 at the age of twenty, Helen married Barry Stanley Pearson on Christmas Day and later had two children--her eldest son named Lonnie Stanley Pearson, and youngest daughter Tanya Denise Pearson. Three years later, the family of four decided to relocate to Southern California for better employment opportunities.
For 33 years as a nurse and later turned dialysis technician for Gambro Health, it was easy to see the dedication and passion Helen had to serve and care for others throughout her life. She was truly an example of someone that had a willingness to serve others which was continually proven as she helped raised many of her siblings, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren. Instead of being called grandma by her many grandchildren, Helen adopted the name “Neece” from her first grandchild Natasha Smith, and from that point on everyone she loved and cared for continued to address her as such. Everyone knew that Helen had a good heart and would give the shirt off of her back if you needed and food and shelter to many family members in need. She loved and cared about everyone no matter what.
After relocating to Moreno Valley in 2004, Helen became a member of Men & Women on the Move Ministries under the covering and teachings of Apostle Dr. Al Harris, and Emeritus Pastor Janie Harris. During this time and some years later, Helen found herself needing to retire from her dialysis technician career so she could continue to better help serve others for the Lord full time. On June 11, 2011, Helen was ordained a Deaconess and became apart of the mother board where she served as an usher, and cook. Helen was known to be a humble hard worker and never complained about being of service to others. In fact, she would rebuke you if she was asked to sit down and relax and to stop serving. She loved serving so much so, that even after her retirement, she found herself being comfortable in continuing to wear her nursing scrubs. When asked why she continued to do so, she answered “I'm comfortable like this”. Nothing shows more dedication and passion than truly being of service for others and the Lord 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
In her free time, she would love to watch her favorite soap opera, General Hospital and loved to inform others of the show when asked. This past year, Helen decided to learn to swim with her dear friend Shirley and did so by visiting Emeritus and Apostle Harris’s home where they had a pool that wasn’t too deep for her liking. She was reluctant at first, but was happy she was able to learn after many years of not knowing how to swim. Helen had the joy of the Lord and an infectious laugh that you would find yourself laughing right along with her, even if you didn’t feel like it. No matter how bad your day was, she would always listen to you and let you vent. She was very adamant about giving advice to tell others and made sure to remind them to “get their lives right with Jesus.” Many who knew her loved her, and those close to her called her their Earth Angel as she loved, guided and protected them throughout their lives. She was a beautiful soul and exemplified what a true woman of God was and no one ever had anything negative to say about her.
One month before her 80th birthday, Helen was diagnosed with stage four bone and lung cancer in May 2022. She didn’t let her illness keep her down and continued to keep her joy and faith and rely on God for his healing. When asked what can be done to help her, Helen would reply, “nothing, I am trusting and believing God to be my healer, God has the final say, not man.” On Saturday October 7, 2023, Deaconess Helen Marie Pearson was healed to be brought home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Helen Marie Pearson is preceded in death by her late husband Barry Stanley Pearson, sister Elaine Tolbert, Aunt Margaret Robinson, Cousin Pamela Horne, Nephews James and Keith Pearson, and great nephew Stephan Pearson.
