Isabel was born and raised in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon Mexico. She comes from a family of nine children, four women & five men. She was married to Gonzalo Fernandez until he passed away at the age of 53. She has five children, Martha, Jose Manuel, Victor, Elizabeth, and Jaime. She also has 29 grandkids, and two great-grandchildren.
She graduated from El Colegio Mexicano (Catholic School) as a Bilingual Secretary.
She worked as a bilingual secretary for Aetna Insurance company, and for Catholic Charities as a Case Manager.
My Mom came from a very religious family, so all her passion and hobbies were related to the church.
She belonged to the parish La Divina Providencia in Monterrey Mexico where she was a minister, and she also belonged to Mary’s legion. She used to help in the kitchen every weekend making enchiladas, and flautas. When she moved to the USA she didn’t participate in any ministries, but she continued to go to St Christopher Church in Moreno Valley until she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s diseases. After that she watched mass on tv and prayed the rosary every single day. She would also listen to El Sembrador every day.
We her children have always had a big understanding of the Catholic faith. She has one nephew that’s a priest, that belongs to Opus Day. She also has two nuns in the family.
My Mom did read the bible but unfortunately once she got her disease, she also developed dementia, so after that she did not read the bible. But she never stopped watching mass every day and praying the rosary with my brother Victor. As a good Mexican she, and all of her children have a lot of devotion to la Virgen of Guadalupe.
She was an extremely beautiful person inside, and out. I thank God for the gift of having her as my Mom.
