Ronald Eugene Johnson (aka “Ronnie”) was born on August 18, 1951, in Pensacola, Florida, to Carl Johnson and Alma Ramey. He proudly served in the United States Armed Forces and was honorably discharged on March 30, 1973.
Following his military service, Ronnie built a distinguished 27 year career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as an Engineering Draftsman and CAD Operator. He also volunteered with the Gulf Coast Recovery Team, playing a vital role in the Corps’ emergency response to the devastating 2005 hurricanes. Even after retirement, Ronnie’s commitment to service never wavered. He continued supporting his community through In-Home Supportive Services, where he cared for others with patience, compassion, and heart.
Ronnie had a unique gift for finding meaning in everyday life—whether through his cherished stamp album or rock collection, which he loved sharing with others, as well as the care he poured into his yard and surroundings. Ronnie also found joy in fishing and sports. His passion for cars—exceptionally spotless rims—was unmatched, and his pride in a well-kept ride never went unnoticed. An R&B/Soul and funk rock enthusiast, he admired artists like The Five Stairsteps – “O-o-h Child,” Lonnie Liston Smith, and George Clinton, who had him lighting up the dance floor with his signature one-legged move. Ronnie’s warmth, creativity, and generosity helped turn his neighborhood into a true community built on connection and care.
Ronnie is survived by his loving wife, Selena of Palmdale, CA; his son, Marques Johnson (Ronda) of Philadelphia, PA; his daughter, Chakia Johnson of Rosamond, CA; his sister, Shirley Darlene Saunders (Walt) of Stockton, CA; his grandchildren; a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and numerous friends who were touched by his sincerity, gentle spirit, and humor. And let’s not forget his loyal fur-pal, Harley, who’s also feeling the loss.
He was preceded in death by loved ones who now welcome him home into eternal peace. Ronnie entered into rest after his father Carl (“Chili”) Johnson of Sacramento, CA; his mother, Alma Ramey of Stockton, CA; two brothers: Donald (Donnie) Johnson and Lawrence (Larry) Johnson of Stockton, CA.
Ronnie’s life was one of service, love, creativity, and connection. He leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished forever.
