

Born on November 19, 1966, in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan, Vanessa was the cherished daughter of Walter Johnson Jr. and Julia Brackens.
Vanessa was a devoted wife and loving mother who treasured her family beyond measure. Her warmth, kindness, and radiant smile brightened every room she entered, and her tenacious spirit made her a source of strength for all who knew and loved her.
Vanessa’s love for her children was boundless. She was always present with support, guidance, and encouragement through every stage of their lives. Her love created a lasting foundation of confidence and care that will remain with them always.
A dedicated student, Vanessa valued education and personal growth. She graduated from John W. North High School, earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, and later received her MBA in Executive Leadership. She devoted 25 years of service to the City of Riverside where she built a distinguished career in Fiscal Management. Vanessa was known for her strong leadership, integrity and meticulous attention to detail. She had a special gift for encouraging and uplifting others, always inspiring them to be the best version of themselves.
Vanessa was married to her loving husband, Mark Kirks, for 30 wonderful years. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. She found joy in spending time with family and friends, visiting Disneyland, reading, and enjoying quiet evenings at home.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Mark Kirks Sr. of Moreno Valley, California; children, Mark Kirks Jr. and Megan Kirks of Moreno Valley; mother, Julia Mae Hawkins (Melvin) of Riverside; aunt, Margaret Berridge of Apple Valley; brothers, Walter C. Johnson of Tulare and Melvin Hawkins Jr. (Felecia) of Rialto; sisters, Tory Chavarin (Vicente) of Fountain Hills, Arizona and Erika Hawkins of Murrieta; along with extended family members and dear friends.
Vanessa was reunited with her father, Walter Johnson Jr., and her sister, Peggy Ann Johnson who preceded her in death.
Vanessa leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
