

He received his early education in Morgan City, Louisiana, and graduated from Morgan City High School in 1974. During his high school years, Charles was a gifted athlete, participating in football, basketball, and track. Following graduation, he attended Southeastern Louisiana University on an athletic scholarship.
Charles dedicated over 20 years of faithful service to the oil and gas industry, working as a Production Operator with Conoco.
A man of deep faith, Charles was baptized on August 14, 2005, at Mt.Era Baptist Church by the late Reverend Lenel Waston. His commitment to the church and his walk with God led to his appointment as a Deacon in 2008, where he served with humility and devotion.Charles was a member of the church anniversary and pastor’s aid committees.
Charles had a heart for service and was always willing to mentor and guide the youth, offering wisdom, encouragement, and support whenever needed.
He was also a devoted member of St. John Lodge #11, where he maintained active membership for 37 years. He was a faithful

Charles “Putter” Phillips Jr. is survived by his devoted loving wife of 31 years Avis Ann Phillips. His daughter Jerrenda (Eric) Guidry of Baton Rouge,La, his son Charles (Shauntel) Phillips III of Houma,La and his youngest daughter Keona Phillips of Patterson,La. He leaves behind 7 grandchildren Tyler(McKenzie), Nylah, Shaun, Charleston, Nairi, Elle and Elliott. Three brothers Jackie Phillips of Morgan, La, Jerrie Phillips of St Martinville,La, and Jeffery Phillips Sr of New Iberia,La. One sister Earline (David) Gaskins of Morgan City,La.Two Aunts Bettye Price of Kansas City,Missouri and Barbara Nell Smith of Houston, Texas. One Godson Kieta Phillips of Las Vegas, Nevada. Four brother in-laws Ronnie (Sandra) Turner, James (Delores) Turner, Earthell (Shirley) Turner all of Patterson,la and Pastor Mitchell (Alicia) Williams of Morgan City, La. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends, church members and Mason brothers.
He is preceded in death by his parents Charles Phillips Sr and Gladys Phillips, grandmother Clara Smith, One brother Frankie Smith Sr, Four sisters Mable Hilliard, Lillie Mae Hilliard, Rosalind Sweet and Gloria Phillips. Mother-n-law Evelyn G. Williams, brother-n- law Sterling Williams, Niece Shanqualla Turner-Thompson, Cousin Thomas Riley Sr and Nephew Peter Skinner.
A visitation will be held on January 2, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Siracusaville Recreation Center, located at 1110 Grace St, Morgan City, LA 70380.
The funeral service will follow at the same location on January 2, 2026, starting at 1:00 pm.
Burial will take place on January 2, 2026, at the Morgan City Cemetery, situated at 450 Myrtle St, Morgan City, LA 70380.
