
Mr. Lane was born in Burke County on June 9, 1920, son of the late Benjamin Monroe Lane Sr. and Rebecca S. Lane. He served in the Army Air Forces, and later worked in the propane industry. While working for Greens Fuel, Ben was instrumental in converting GTE’s vehicles to propane run vehicles. He was an avid square dancer and also enjoyed sports such as golf. He was a member of the First Baptist Church at the Mall, the Elk’s Lodge and numerous other charitable and civic groups.
In addition to his parents Mr. Lane was preceded in death by his wife Martha Bost Lane; and his sisters, Marie Lane Scarboro and Hilda Lane Woodie. He is survived by his son, Richard M. Lane of Polk City, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 2:00PM at Forest Hill Cemetery with Reverend Dennis Aldridge officiating.
