Clara Margaret Rutherford

Born to Mildred Michaux Cuthbertson Horton and Kirksey Keller Cuthbertson Sr. on July 22, 1942 in Linville, NC. She resided and attended school in both North Carolina and New York City. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy Cuthbertson Code Owens, Betty Peters, Myrna Cuthbertson and brothers Kirksey “Bill” Cuthbertson Jr. and Alonzo Cuthbertson.

She endured a lifetime of physical pain from a body that seemed to hold her in constant torment. Peggy was never physically able to work a job in the public sector. However, aside from physical limitation, she still had work to perform. She followed the guidance of the Holy spirit and lived a lifetime of loving, caring for and nurturing the people she loved most. The pain she felt daily was alleviated by her service to others. She cared for several family members and friends until their passing. She always smiled and would say, “I got this pain and that pain…but I’m fine” Focusing on the events at hand, dismissing her ailments. She never complained, just always kept pushing forward.

She finally got tired on August 13, 2019 and answered the call to rejoin her Creator, becoming an ancestor for those who have descended from her and those who’s hearts she touched along the way. She is survived by her husband Arell Rutherford Sr. Her children and stepchildren, Wanda Nation (Kenneth), Kent Banks (Xhia), Curtis Rutherford, Arell Rutherford Jr (Libby), Angela Stevenson, Sherry Wilkerson (Earl), Donna Lomio and Alisa Rutherford. Her grandchildren, Kiara, Tanaya (Antoine), Ta’Mara (Brad), Taia, Tyler,Khenai, Kionnie Brittany, Kenny and three great grandchildren. A very special niece Adaha Jones, nieces, nephews and relatives.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 in the Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
