

Darlene “Teenie” Lucille Davis was born November 8, 1935, along with her twin sister Irene Davis. She was the oldest of Lee & Etta Bakers’ nine children. She attended Olive Hill High School, where she met and married Thomas Davis. Darlene worked for Senator Sam Ervin, Crestline Furniture, Shadowline Lingerie and retired from Broughton Hospital.
She was a religious and devoted disciple, who regularly attended church services with her mother Etta Baker. She accompanied “Mother” on most of her musical trips, providing a helping hand and constant companionship as Mother pursued her musical talents. Darlene was a musical, compassionate person with many loves. She loved her children, her boys Harry, Elliott, Tony, Kenneth, Shannon and Sheldon. She loved her grandchildren, her garden and her home. She liked big cars, especially Cadillacs and beautiful shoes. She was a woman of class and great taste. She wore leopard and snake-skin shoes before it became the “norm”.
Darlene was a hard worker, she provided a home for her children and shelter for her many nieces and nephews whenever needed. She was a great cook, with a green thumb and a do-it-yourself spirit. In her final words to her children, she commented about the quality of her life, she thanked GOD for providing all of her needs and wants. She loved her siblings and her life, she had few regrets and made sure that her sons’ knew how blessed she had been to be their Mother. Her pride and joy was in seeing her sons’ lead successful, purpose driven lives. She was able to count as her many contributions, 2 sons in the Air Force, 2 sons in the Army, and 1 in the Marines, serving their country honorably and proudly. She gave honor to GOD that all of them came home from service safely.
Darlene passed away peacefully on August 15, 2019. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her sister and brother-in-law Irene & Robert Davis, her brother David and her sister Dorothy, her ex-husband Thomas and her son Kenneth. She leaves to mourn her passing, her sons Harry (Grace) Baker, Thomas (Debbie) Davis, Tony Davis, Shannon (Sao) Davis, and Sheldon (Jamara McRae) Davis, her brothers, Edgar (Stephanie) Baker, John (Stephanie) Baker, Frances (Miracle) Baker and her sisters Doris Thomas and JoAnn Thomas along with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her village was large and loving and her kind, gently spirit will be sorely missed.
