To all who knew her, she was the quiet one who always had something meaningful to say. Jackie despised unnecessary chit - chat, was wise beyond her years, generous to everyone, and gave everyone the benefit of the doubt. Her presence was calm, yet she possessed an inner fire that could warm any room when kindled.
Born in Cleveland, OH, on December 21, 1954, Jackie learned early on the importance of family and community. She instilled these values in her children, stepchildren, grandchildren, and partner. For over 20 years, she worked at Hickory Hill Furniture in Valdese, where she cherished the memories of the people she worked with. Later in her career, she transitioned to various roles in logistics, which she greatly enjoyed. After retiring from the corporate world, Jackie found joy in bartending at the American Legion Hut in Valdese, NC, where she made many dear friends.
When not bartending, Jackie loved spending time outdoors, reading, writing, attending her grandkids' ballgames, gathering with family at the "lounge," shooting pool, and watching football, especially the Carolina Panthers. She adored her dogs Gracie, Junie, and Ruby. A gifted writer, Jackie never missed an opportunity to uplift others with her words.
Jackie's family was her greatest pride. She is survived by her loving partner, Brandon Slaydon, her children, Wesly Shell and wife Traci, Alison Whisnant and husband Marcus, and stepdaughter Brianna Carter and husband Nick. Her grandchildren, Cole Whisnant, Molly Benefield, Max Whisnant, Autumn Slaydon, and Kinsley Carter, will carry forward her stories, memories, and wisdom. She was also cherished by her brothers, Dickie and Danny Brown.
We will celebrate Jackie's life at the American Legion Hut in Valdese, NC, after the holidays. The date will be announced later. Jackie expressed a desire for us all to gather, enjoy good music, share a fine meal, and for her to buy a round for all her friends and family.
In Jackie's honor, please be kind to one another.
