

James "Jimmy" Nelson Abernathy. 52, of Drexel, passed away November 2nd, 2017. Born on January 29th, 1965, he was the son of Nelson Moran Abernathy and Christine Elizabeth Dellinger Abernathy. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Sid Dellinger and Louise Powell Dellinger and Jim Abernathy and Marjorie Mull Abernathy. In addition to his parents, those left to cherish his memory are his daughter Ashley Abernathy and her fiancée Michael Christian Jr., his grandson, Papaws boy, Michael Christian, III, his yet to be born 2nd grandson, Maddox Gabriel, whom he already loved so much, his finacee Patty Harvey, his sister, Kim Clarke, his nephew Cody Clarke, and his uncles Henry, Phillip, Tim, Johnny, and David Abernathy and their families.
Jimmy graduated from Freedom High School and he also attended Western Piedmont Community College. He spent many years of his life as a manager at Hardees and Bojangles in Morganton and he also worked many years at the Department of Social Services in Burke County and later managed Wendy's in Marion. He was well known and loved by many.
He enjoyed nature and going to the mountains. Some of his favorite places were the South Mountains, Short off Mountain and the Linville Gorge.
A gathering of friends and family will be held at First Advent Christian Church in Morganton, NC Sunday, November 19th to celebrate his life and memory. The family will receive friends from 2:30-3:30 and the memorial service will follow.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a memorial fund for his daughters and grandsons, Ashley Abernathy, Michael and Maddox Christian. Checks may be mailed to Christine Abernathy at PO Box 236 Glen Alpine, NC 28628.
