James graduated from Freedom High School in 1981 he was employed by Henredon Furniture for 27 years, and retired from J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center in Morganton, he also attended Shiloh A.M.E. Church.
Mr. Ervin was preceded in death by his wife Harriet Irene Davis.
James better known as "pops" leaves to cherish his memories his parents James and Evelyn Ervin of Morganton; a daughter Mary Elizabeth Ervin of Morganton; two bothers Robert and Jessie Ervin; a sister Fannie Laverne Davenport (Leslie) all of Morganton, also stepsons Thomas and Terrell Johnson; stepdaughter Tammy Johnson (Snug) all of Morganton, Grandchildren Raven and Winfield Johnson, Ivey and Iveah Ervin, Nephews Sean Ervin Nicholas Davenport and Isiah Ervin and Morris Harshaw along with other relatives and friends.
