

John is survived by his beloved wife, Bell Frye Crooks; two daughters, Johnnie Sue Webb and Debbie Hipps and her husband Johnny; a grandson, Ben Campbell and his wife Becca; two sisters, Nancy Newton and Anna Laura Jaynes and her husband Carrol; two brothers, Jimmy Crooks and Carl Crooks and his wife Alice. Also surviving are numerous great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Ethel Becky Williams Crooks and John Cuba Crooks, Sr.; a step-mother, Mary Browning Crooks; a special aunt, Laura Crooks Dellinger; four sisters and two brother-in-law, Mary “Dinky” Cooper, Pauline Yancey, Louise Stamey and her husband Alfred and Naomi Johnson and her husband Kurl; a brother and two sister-in-law, Earl Crooks and his wife Muriel and Dot Crooks.
John was born November 20, 1930. His parents owned and operated a store located near the canal bridge on Lake James. He was a carpenter/painter by trade, and had retired from the North Carolina School for the Deaf. John was a deacon for several churches during his lifetime. He also served his country honorably during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Ashtabula.
John was a Christian man who lived his faith. His presence, stories and humor will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.

Services were held earlier last week with entombment at Burke Memorial Park.
Kirksey Funeral Home of Morganton had the honor of serving the family.
