Mary "Gertrude" Clontz, age 92, of Morganton, and beloved wife for 73 years, SMSgt Harold Clontz, USAF, Ret., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 6, 2023. Gertrude was born the daughter of the late Ernest Whisenant and Mary Sue Cope Whisenant on December 12, 1930 in Burke County, NC
Gertrude was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, she will be greatly missed. Gertrude attended Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. She had the gift of hospitality. Gertrude was an amazing cook, could put together a wonderful meal with little notice. Gertrude also enjoyed traveling with family and friends.
Along with her parents, Gertrude is preceded in death by four brothers, Bud, Bona, Jim, and Richard Whisenant; and three sisters, Gladys and Lucille Allman, and Frances Stamey.
Those left behind to cherish Gertrude's memory include her husband, Harold Clontz of the home; a son, Dean Clontz and his wife Lynn of TX; a daughter, Wanda William and her husband Butch of Morganton; four grandchildren, Tim Clontz and his wife Tera of TX, Terry Clontz and his wife Terry Marie of TX, Susan Watson Powell and her husband Kyle of NC and Matthew Watson and his wife Tristan of UT; two great grandchildren, Alex and Dylan Clontz; three brothers, David Whisenant and his wife Brenda of TN, Winifred Whisenant of Morganton and Gene Whisenant and his wife Daphne of Granite Falls; and two sisters, Elizabeth Norville and Sadie Whisenant, both of Morganton. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Kirksey Funeral Home of Morganton has the honor of serving the family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 12, 2023 in the Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A private entombment will be take place at Burke Memorial Park.
