Rita Jeanette (Thomas) Price, age 85, of Brownstown, Michigan, and former resident of Marion, North Carolina, on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 joined our dad, Frank Price, in heaven. Rita was born February 8, 1936 in River Rouge, MI.
Rita enjoyed life and her family. Frank, her beloved husband of 61½ years, passed away 5½ years ago. She passed from this life into eternal life with her loving daughter Cathy Winfree and son-in-law Mike Winfree at her side. They faithfully were with her the past 6 weeks she was at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital and Rehab Center.
In addition to her husband, Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Herman & Nettie Thomas as well as her sister, Joy Marie Price.
Rita is survived by 3 daughters, Sherrie (Vincent) Estill of Rossville, GA, Cathy (Mike) Winfree of Southgate, MI and Lori Price of Rutherfordton, NC as well as her sister, Mattie Riley of Wyandotte, MI. She is also survived by 3 granddaughters, Gabrielle (Nathaniel) Haston of East Ridge, TN, Michaela (Jon) Rychener of Dunlap, IL, and Meredith (Andrew) McGarvey of Rossville, GA. Rita was blessed with 7 great-grandchildren, Caedmon Haston (9), Arianna Rychener (5), Rayna McGarvey (4), Selah Haston (4), Joanna Rychener (3), Lincoln McGarvey (23 months), and Aaron Rychener (11 months) as well as many nieces and nephews.
One of Rita’s favorite pastimes was sewing. It started with making clothes for herself, her daughters, and their Barbie dolls (which her great-granddaughters are now enjoying). Her sewing continued to counted cross stitch, candle wicking, embroidery, and for the past several years, quilting. It was amazing to see how she could turn a few scraps of material into a beautiful piece of art. She also had a love for canning. No one in our family likes green beans unless they were grandma’s green beans. Rita’s love of creating beautiful things through embroidery, cross-stitching, and quilting was inspiring.
A private graveside service will be held for the family at a future date with her son-in-law, Dr. Vincent Estill, officiating. Rita will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband at Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of Bible Way Baptist Church, 2502 Lakeview Drive, Rossville, GA 30741.
We are so thankful we have the assurance of seeing her again only because of the sacrifice Jesus made for those who accept Him as their Lord and Savior. Titus 2:13
Heaven just got sweeter for each of us.
