Robert Lee Courtney Sr.

Robert Lee Courtney, Sr., age 72, of Morganton, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 15th 2011 at his residence and surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born to the late Lemuel Courtney and Lola Estelle Mooney Courtney on November 7th 1938 in Burke County. He was a longtime and active member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Robert was a Prayer Warrior. He was retired from the NC Department of Corrections obtaining the rank of Sergeant. Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed.

Along with his parents, Robert is preceded in death by two brothers, Ned and Jack Courtney, and a sister, Alice Payne.

Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 44 years, Brenda Carson Courtney of the home; a son, Robert Courtney, Jr. and his wife, Melinda of Morganton; three grandsons, Joshua, Richard and Michael Courtney of Morganton; a brother, Larry Joe Courtney and his wife, Sandy of Valdese; and a special niece, Suzanne Courtney of Morganton. Also surviving are numerous other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 17th 2011 at Bethel United Methodist Church on Dysartsville Road with the Rev. April Abernathy officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
