

Roy Lawrence Cox, age 79, of Lenoir, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, November 7, 2011 while in the care of the Carolina Rehab Center of Burke. Roy was born June 19, 1932 to the late James Lawrence Cox and Maudie Elma Pope Cox in Caldwell County. He attended the Church of Jesus Christ in Lenoir and was retired from the furniture industry. Roy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed.
Along with his parents, Roy is preceded in death by an infant son, Johnny Lee Cox.
Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 60 years, Alma Viola Cox of the home; a son, Terry Lawrence Cox and his wife, Donna of Lenoir; two daughters, Sylvia Gilliland and her husband, Larry of Lenoir, and Wilma Eller and her husband, John of Lincolnton; five grandchildren, Christal Taylor of Lenoir, Chad Moore and his wife, Kristi of Mt Pleasant, SC, Misty Harris and her husband, Marc of Lincolnton, Kenny Eller and his wife, Laurie of Lincolnton, and Travis Cox of Lenoir; two step-granddaughters, Dani Pennell and her husband Matt and Toni Wright and her husband Phil, both of Lenoir; nine great grandchildren, Grey and Kindred Moore, Josh and Brooklyn Harris, Katy, Jack and Ben Pennell, and Dillan and Allie Wright; and three sisters, Rose Young and her husband, Bill of Spruce Pine, Minnie Woods and Ginger Miller of Lenoir. Also surviving are numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 in the Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home with Bishop Cade Burns officiating. Interment will follow at 3:30 P.M. at the Tate Family Cemetery in Pineola. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
