

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Willow Tree AME Church in Morganton. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday, June 8th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton and on Sunday, June 9th from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at the church.
The family has entrusted funeral arrangements with Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton, NC.

On June 4, 2013, Ruby Irene Kanipe surrounded by her loving and dedicated sister, entered into eternal rest. She was born in Burke County on January 21, 1922 to the late Martha Kanipe and the late Ernest Joseph Avery. Ruby was a faithful member of Willow Tree A.M.E. Church in Morganton, NC; where she served on the Stewardess Board #1. When able, Ruby was always willing to work in her church and on occasions would prepare special dishes for dinners held at the church and the numerous fish fries held in the large yard at her home.
Ruby loved to cook and was well loved for her chicken and dumplings, cabbage, fried chicken, beans and delicious corn bread with the special ingredient of “sweat”; which Ruby would remind her loving brother, Ernest (Pie) so that it would taste better. Ruby is so lovingly remembered for her genuine maternal ways which she proudly exhibited for many years as she passionately provided childcare on a daily basis to many children in her local area.
She leaves a legacy of love to cherish her memories that will continue throught her sister, Rebecca Avery Jennings and brother, Ernest Joseph Avery, Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA. She leaves behind her nieces and nephews: Erica Berry, Renita Jennings, Kathey Avery, Elizabeth Blanton, Barbara Blanton, Helen Ervin, Shirley Harbison, Louise Rutherford, Janie Avery, Florence Caldwell, Alice Powell, Fred Kanipe, Harlod Kanipe, Jr., Ervin Harbison, Vester Harbison, Kendrick Berry, Brandon Berry, Oscar J. Avery, Roy R. Avery, Calvin S. Avery, Jerry Avery, Ernest Blanton, Robert Blanton, Frankl;in Blanton and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews and cherished friends.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Pearl Harbison, Elizabeth Kanipe, Mae Kanipe Corpening and Mary Blanton; brothers, Harold Kanipe, Sr., Joseph Avery and Oscar Avery. She is now welcomed by a host of family and friends who have gone on. She kept the faith.
