

John was the only member of his family to be born in America. His family immigrated to Detroit from Budapest Hungary. His Hungarian roots were very important to him. He spoke fluent Hungarian and loved Hungarian cuisine.
He was an incredibly loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather, and a truly supportive and kind man.
John was the Director of the Great Smoky Mountains Expo Center at Walters State Community College, retiring after 26 years of service. He loved his position and the people he worked with. When his sons were young, the called their dad, “my dad the Expoman”.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Paul and Sara Báldy; sisters: Sara (Joe) Renvez and Cather Kati Báldy and brother: Captain Paul Báldy, and many extended family members from Hungry and Detroit.
He is survived by his wife Mary; sons: Paul Báldy and Evan (Jamie) Báldy. Grandchildren: Jon Robert, Carter, Emma and Mason Báldy. Special niece: Zsuzsi and a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins, along with a large extended family in Budapest Hungry. Special sister-in-law: Janet Schultz, and other in-laws: Mike (Patti) Schultz, Dave Schultz, Ken Schultz, Bob Schultz, Tom (Natalie) Schultz, Margaret (Mark) Bennett and Judith (Ron) Grennier.
Alongside his ALPS family. He especially cherished his Alps Angels, who meant so much to him. Over the past two years, ALPS became what he often called ‘his favorite place in the world.’”
Receiving of friends will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Stubblefield Funeral Home.
A Funeral mass will be held at Holy Cross Hungarian Roman Catholic Church in Detroit, Michigan at a later date.
