In the early morning hours of April 24, 2026, our dear mother was welcomed into the open arms of her Lord and Savior, in whom she had placed her trust long ago, and was reunited with her beloved husband of 39 years, Buford.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Paul and Charlsie Mae Rymer; her brothers, Paul Dale Rymer and John Wayne Rymer; and her sister, Edna Lynn Morgan.
She is survived by her children: sons Mark (Tina), Wayne (Cynthia), Robert (Jodi), and Jason (Diane) Barnard; and daughter Amanda (Matthew) Gent. Her grandchildren: Heather, Markus (Kendi), Chris, Seth, Aaron, Brayden (Madison), Matthew, Hannah, Nicholas Barnard, Camdyn and Elijah Gent. Her great-grandchildren: Ella, Elliott, and Everleigh Barnard.
She is also survived by her brother, Donald Carroll Rymer; Johnny’s wife, Dorothy Rymer; along with many nieces, nephews, and countless children she lovingly cared for—each of whom knew her simply as “Nanny.”
She was a faithful member of Statem Gap Missionary Baptist Church for many years, until her health no longer allowed her to attend. She later joined Enterprise Missionary Baptist Church with her son’s family, where she remained a devoted member until she went to her Heavenly home.
Her life was devoted to loving and caring for her family—her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many who simply knew her as “Nanny.” With a gentle heart and open arms, she made each person feel seen, cherished, and at home. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched through the love she so freely gave.
We will cherish our memories with her and love her forever.
Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Stubblefield Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Lance Cummings and Rev. Benny Jones officiating.
Family and friends will gather in Hamblen Memory Gardens on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at 12 Noon for graveside services.
