Charles was born on 11 July 1936 and raised in Grassy Creek, N.C. He was surrounded by family to include his parents, sister, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins who all had a hand in shaping him as a man. They did a great job because he was a good man, a hard worker, and a devoted father.
Charles/C.L./Charlie, whichever name you knew him by, had a career as an Over-the-Road truck driver with McLean Trucking and then A.B.F., but his real passion was flying. He absolutely loved sharing that passion by providing flight instruction at the Morristown Regional Airport. He sought out any opportunity to fly be it bear patrol, elk patrol or fire patrol. If he was in the air, he was happy.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife Shelba J. Greenlee and his daughter Katherine S. Parsons. He is survived by his sister Maxine McIntyre (Dan) of Asheville, NC; children Gary Greenlee of Whitesburg, TN and Janet Waggoner (Eric) of Sterling, VA; his grandson Jake Waggoner of Winchester, VA; his granddaughter Sydney Waggoner of Sterling VA; a honorary step-daughter Brooke Buell of Morristown, TN; his partner Wilma Piwetz of Meyersville, TX; honorary step-daughter Erin Piwetz of Cuero, TX; honorary grandchildren Jayden and Ethan Pothoff of Cuero, TX; nieces Carol McIntyre and Leisa Pope of NC; and niece Christi Masters and nephew Jeff Masters of GA.
Visitation followed by a service will be hosted at Stubblefield Funeral Home, 5421 E Andrew Johnson Hwy, Morristown TN. On Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, visitation will begin at 10:00 am followed by a service at 12:00 noon.
