James Grant Greene, age 64, of Whitesburg, passed away at Johnson City Medical Center on Thursday, April 14, 2016 surrounded by his family and close friends. Jim was born on December 3, 1951, the only child of Grant and Hattie Greene. A lifelong resident of the St. Clair-Whitesburg community, Jim was a retired farmer and a 1973 graduate from East TN State University, with a Bachelors in Business. A Christian by faith, Jim is a member of Whitesburg Baptist Church. Jim married his high school sweetheart, Deanie Thompson on March 10, 1972. They enjoyed twelve years of marriage filled with hobbies and sports and adventures before welcoming their first daughter Lauren Shea in 1984 and their second daughter Kara Leanne in 1989. Jim and Deanie just recently celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary. Throughout his life, Jim enjoyed riding motorcycles, going deer hunting, collecting guns and working on the '69 and '70 model Camaros he promised to his girls. A fun-loving jokester, Jim rarely missed an opportunity to get a good laugh out of just about any situation. His generosity and quick-to-help nature were qualities he was well-known for throughout the community. Jim's kind heart and good nature will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Grant Greene and Hattie Whitlock Greene; sister-in-law, Linda Thompson Newberry; and brother-in-law, Jerry Thompson. Jim is survived by his wife, Deanie Thompson Greene; daughters, Shea and Kara Greene; sister-in-law, Debbie (Mike) Byrd; brothers-in-law, Mark Thompson and Robin (Vicki) Thompson; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends: many of whom Jim considered family. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 19th from 5 – 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Stubblefield Funeral Home with the funeral to follow at 7:00 p.m. Family and friends will gather at 10:45 a.m. in Hamblen Memory Gardens for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service on Wednesday, April 20th. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Shady Grove Church Women's Auxiliary Food Delivery Group, the Daily Bread Community Kitchen of Morristown, Hawkins or Hamblen Fire Departments or Humane Societies; all organizations Jim consistently supported.
