Jimmie Richard “JR” Thompson, age 81, of Whitesburg, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2015. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. He served in the US Army. JR was a builder, farmer and an avid horseman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Emma Thompson; son, Richard William Thompson; and sister, Virginia Jo Gammon. Survivors include his daughter, Tammie (Mike) Thompson Lowry; son, Doug Thompson and fiancé, Susie Elmore; brother, Dallas Thompson; grandchildren, Loren Elizabeth Lowry and James Floyd Lowry; niece, Alice Ann (Glen) Brooks; great-nieces, Casey Sivert, Sammie Jo Brooks; and special friend, Zan Walker. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Stubblefield Funeral Home on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Richard Long officiating. Interment will follow in Hamblen Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be: James Lowry, Blake Bardin, Brett Sivert, David Buell, Jerry Horner, Dan Walker, Jimmy Greene, and John Walker. The family will receive friends from 1 – 3:00 p.m. Sunday prior to the services at the funeral home.
