Nellie Ruth Gibson, age 92, of Morristown, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Maryville on the morning of Tuesday, October 18, 2016, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 7, 1924 in Hamblen County to the late Hubert and Cornie Bell. Nellie was a resident of Morristown her entire life. Growing up, she attended Enterprise Baptist Church and always enjoyed listening to Gospel hymns at home. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and canning vegetables from her garden. She was married to the late LaFate “Junior” Gibson Jr. Also preceding her in death was her sister, Mae Moore; and brother, Paul Henry Bell. Nellie is survived by her only daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and David Lyscas; three grandchildren, Matthew, Samantha, and Tracy Lyscas; sister, Mary Francis (J. D.) Byrd; special friend and caregiver, Darline Smith; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 21, 2016 from 5 – 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Stubblefield Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. Family and friends will meet in Bethesda Cemetery on Saturday at 12:45 p.m. for a 1:00 p.m. graveside service. Family reception will follow at Stubblefield Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Stubblefield Funeral Home.
