Rosella Lawson Rice went to be with her heavenly Father on Sunday, June 12, 2022.
Born August 3, 1926 in Arjay, Kentucky, Rosella was the elder daughter of Charles and Maggie Day Lawson and was the last surviving member of their family, being predeceased by brothers, Gordon and Harry, and sister, Betty Lawson Farley.
She was the wife of Leon Floyd Rice, deceased September 12, 2012.
She is survived by children, Brenda Rice Thorn (Walter Thompson Thorn, deceased) and Charles Asher Rice (Brenda Cable Rice); grandchildren, Christopher Mark Thorn (Jennifer Schuck Thorn), Matthew B Rice,
Jessica Rice Dupree (Justin Dupree); great grandchildren, Haley Carson Thorn, John Lawson Thorn, Aiden Thompson Thorn, Paisley Jean Rice, Aviah Rose Rice, Jensen Asher Dupree and Jennings Josephine Dupree.
Rosella and Leon had been residents of Morristown, TN since 1950 and were faithful members of Cherokee Hills Baptist Church from its founding days. Leon was a Deacon and served as Treasurer.
Rosella was a choir member and soloist, Sunday School Teacher, VBS Director/Teacher and WMU member.
They owned Leon’s Café, where Rosella was famous for her homestyle cooking.
When health issues demanded a change, they moved to Daniel Island, SC to live with daughter, Brenda and her husband, Walter. While there they enjoyed frequent visits with grandchildren and great grandchildren, attending sports events and sharing many family meals.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the assisted living staff at Stratford Place and to Crescent Hospice staff for their loving care and support during her last days.
Family will receive friends at Stubblefield Funeral Home on Saturday, August 6, 2022, 1:30 -2:30 pm.
Service and interment will follow in Hamblen Memory Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Cherokee Hills Baptist Church of Morristown or to a charity of your choice.
