

He was born in Belmont, LA and grew up in Plainview, LA. Charlie was a current resident of Moss Bluff, LA. He spent most of his adult life in Houston and San Antonio, TX. He owned and operated an Exxon Service Station and Car Care Center and retired in Plano, TX with Mary Jane, his wife of 55 years. Charles was a member of First Baptist Church of Moss Bluff. He was very active and loved to socialize with friends and church members and loved going out to eat. In his younger years he loved to fish. In his 80’s, he played the guitar three times a week playing country and Cajun music for local nursing homes. Charlie loved his family.
Survivors include daughter, Ina Grubb and husband, Bradley of Plano, TX and grandson, Joshua Moore. Other survivors are his second wife, Floy Mae Sneed Powell of Lake Charles; step-children Carolyn Corkran and husband James, William Byrd and wife, Sandra of DeRidder, Riley Byrd and wife, Marcy of Sulphur and Larry Byrd and wife, Laura of Moss Bluff. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Bessie Powell; his first wife, Mary Jane Wardlaw Powell; and his brothers, Hub Powell and Ted Powell.
Visitation will be on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff from 12pm until service time at 2pm. Burial will take place at Harmony Grove Cemetery in Texarkana, AR on Monday, October 19, 2015 at 4pm.
