

Dean Long of Baytown, TX was born on June 16, 1956 to Curtis D. Long and Billie Beth Simmons Long in Lake Charles, LA and went to be with his Lord and Savior as Tuesday, October 18, 2011 after losing his long brave battle with cancer.
He graduated from Ross S. Sterling High School in Baytown, TX and was employed by Valero Refining Co-Tx as an Instrument Specialist. Dean was a people person with the ability to bring a smile to anyone’s face, which made him unforgettable to all who met him. He was an avid fisherman, loved to watch football, especially the Texans and the Saints and enjoyed putting on firework displays for family and friends.
He was preceded by his parents and brother, Craig Trahan. He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Sara Scott Long; his step-children, Allen R. Newman and wife, Jean, Joel T. Newman and fiancée, Jennifer Carras, David W. Newman and wife, Tammy, all of Sulphur, LA and Stacey R. Newman Swope and husband, Kansas of Humble, TX; nine grandchildren, four sisters and many extended family, colleagues and friends who loved him and will miss him greatly.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation at Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff on Friday from 3-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. til time of service. His funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2011. Rev. Art Davies will officiate. Pallbearers assisting in his service will be his brothers-in-law and fishing buddies: Hardy Gregory, Don Hebert, Floyd Fontenot, Kenneth Scott, Pat Hendricks and Brian Havwrylak.
