Mr. Peters was the first in his family to complete high school. As a young man, he left family, friends and all he had ever known in Bastrop. He bravely moved with his wife and 2 preschool children to Lake Charles. A resident of Lake Charles for 62 years, Mr. Peters achieved success as an insurance agent. He enjoyed people and people enjoyed him.
In 1963, his life was radically changed when, through repentance and faith, he surrendered himself to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. This decision set his life on a new course and that commitment would change his future and that of his family forever.
Bill would share his faith in Christ anywhere, anytime, with anyone who was willing to listen. Bill Peters started something wonderful in his family that would last for generations. He instigated an example of faith in the living God. Thank you Daddy! We pass on our faith in Christ because you passed yours on to us.
Mr. Peters is survived by daughters, Suzanne (Suzie) Rivers and husband James; Cecilia Sherer and husband David; daughter-in-law Barbara Chapman and husband Stanley; 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include sister, Fritzie Buffington and brother Danny Peters of Bastrop, LA. Mr. Peters was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Jimmie Bryant Peters, son, Larry Peters; parents Fritz and Pearl Peters, sisters, Berlynn Speaker and Mary Duncan.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, followed by a Memorial service at 10:30 at Hixson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Moss Bluff building fund. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com
