Morris Earl Bennett, 86, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Norton Brownsboro Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones. Born Friday, April 21, 1939, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late William and Carrie Bennett.
Morris spent many years living in Chicago before returning home and spending most of his life in Kentucky. He retired from Vogt Machine Company after years of dedicated work. He believed in showing up, working hard, and taking care of his family. As a Master Mason, he valued integrity, loyalty, and helping others.
Morris was a devoted husband to his loving wife of 67 years, Barbara. Together they built a life centered on family. In retirement, he and Barbara loved spending extended time in Florida each year-something he always looked forward to.
He never met a stranger. Anywhere he went, he ran into someone he knew—or made a new friend. He would give you the shirt off his back and go out of his way to help anyone. He was a lifelong University of Kentucky basketball fan, never missed a good western, kept coffee close by all day, and was known for saying, “What you ought to do is…” followed by steady advice, whether you wanted it or not.
He loved camping and boating when his son was young, creating memories that lasted a lifetime. Even when he was no longer physically able, he still talked about going fishing again someday.
More than anything, he was proud of his family. He spoke often and openly about his son and grandchildren with great pride. He loved his daughter-in-law as his own and cherished the family they built together.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his son, John (Stephanie); his grandchildren, Lucas, Eli, Hanna, and Lilli; his siblings, Donald, Ricky, and Diane, along with a host of family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Charles and Betty.
His legacy is simple: love your family, work hard, help people, and always believe there’s something better ahead.
Funeral services will take place at 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home in Mt. Washington, (123 Winning Colors Drive) with burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
