Amos, the youngest of 12 siblings, was born December 12, 1938, in Muncie, Indiana. To the late Mamie and Oscar Hill. He has been a resident of Muncie for the last 85 years. Amos was educated in the Muncie Public School System and graduated from Muncie Central High School. He worked and retired from the City of Muncie, Heekin Parks, and Recreation Department as a groundskeeper for 25 years.
Amos was a member of Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Hill for 25 years, and later moved to Bethel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor McCoy. In 1995, Amos was anointed of God and called to the ministry, and served faithfully under Pastor McCoy for over 25 years. Due to his illness later in life, he was placed in an assisted living facility and was unable to attend church. But that didn’t stop Amos from spreading the word of God. He was allowed to spread the word of God to the men and women residing in the facility as well. He would hold a Wednesday bible class and Sunday morning service, when his health allowed… He truly loved the Lord.
He was a very hardworking and kind person, very giving of his time and whatever else was needed of him. He was very compassionate, thoughtful, understanding, and generous to a fault, and full of laughter.
Amos was married to his loving wife Mary for 33 years, who preceded him in death in 2009, but their union blended six children whom he loved and reared as his own… Amos is survived by three daughters, Bonnie and Judy of Muncie, and Betty of Little Rock, AR; two sons, “JB” of California, and Andrew of Muncie; and a host of nieces, nephews, grand and great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mamie and Oscar Hill; his Wife, Mary Hill; daughter, Annie Thurmond; five brothers, James, Oscar, Richard, Jeremiah, and John; and six sisters, Gladys, Hopie, Carrie, Elizabeth, Ophelia, and Dottie.
Public visitation for Amos will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Elm Ridge Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304, followed by a memorial service starting promptly at 2:00 p.m.
