

Elaine was born Wednesday, October 22, 1941, in Muncie, Indiana, the daughter of George and Lois (Manlove) Newton.
Elaine graduated from Yorktown High School in 1959 and from Ball Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1962. She spent her entire career in the nursing profession, in hospitals and nursing homes in Indiana and Sierra Leone, West Africa. She was a missionary nurse in Africa for fifteen years. She left Africa in 1982 when her family needed her home to help care for her ill father.
Survivors include her sister, Sharon Newton Hite (David); brother, Philip Newton (Teressa); sister-in-law, Leslie Boles Newton; twelve loving nieces and nephews: Julie Hite Neal (Ron), Steven Hite (Jeanette), Kristine Hite Holderman (Rondey), Jeffrey Hite (Laura), David Hite (DeDe), James Hite (Michelle), Michelle Newton Gay (Peter), Philip Newton (Pennie), Tim Newton (Michelle), Bryan Newton (Debbie), Stacy Newton Patton (Vince), and Audrey Newton Barron (Sam); and a host of great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lois Newton; and a brother, Stephen Newton.
Per Elaine’s wishes, cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304.
A Memorial service to celebrate Elaine will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022, 12:00 p.m. at Elm Ridge Funeral Home.
Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the service begins at Elm Ridge Funeral Home.
Nurses from the Delaware County Nursing Honor Guard will be posted during calling hours and they will conduct a Nursing Memorial Service at 12:00 p.m. Saturday.
We would like to extend thanks to the staff of Bethel Pointe for the care they provided for Elaine and our family during this difficult time. Also, to Heart-to-Heart Hospice for their care for Elaine and guidance and comfort to the family.
