Howard Dwain Moon

Howard D. “Joe” Moon, 79, Muncie, graduated to the splendor of Heaven on Tuesday afternoon, December 15, 2020, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. He will be missed by those left here and reunited with those in Heaven.

He was born Sunday, January 5, 1941, in Lake City, Tennessee, the son of Clyde C. and Cora (Disney) Moon. Joe loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed spending time at the family cabin in Byrdstown, Tennessee and he was very proud of his southern roots. Joe was an avid bible student and a longtime member of the Temple Baptist church. He was an avid Washington Redskins fan and enjoyed his CB and HAM radio. Joe loved playing a game of Pinochle cards and eating at KFC or Chinese food. Mr. Moon honorably served his country in the United States Air Force.

Survivors include two sons, Jeff S. (wife, Margaret) Moon, and Robert W. (wife, Kathy) Moon; two daughters, Donna Marie Moon, and Tammy M. (husband, Joseph) Sovoy; two step sons, James Daniel (wife, Nora Tickle) Ashcom, and John Michael (fiancé, Dana Norton) Ashcom; brother, Tony Moon; sister-in-law, Kathy Moon; brother-in-law, Phil (wife, Linda) Ellis; nieces and nephews, Cindi (husband, Andy) Lautenbach, Kinnie (wife, Kate) Moon, Connie (husband, Rick) Cobb, Tricia (husband, Phil) Turner, Darwin “Robbie” (wife, Julie) Alsip, Rodney (wife, Joni) Ellis, Paula (husband, Larry) Smith, Cori (Joe Richard) Moon, and Caleb (Sierra Lyons) Moon; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-nieces; and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola “Lollie” Moon on May 21, 2020; his parents, Clyde C. and Cora (Disney) Moon; two brothers, Kinnie Moon, and James Disney; and two sisters, Shirley Alsip, and Brenda Ellis.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at Temple Baptist Church, 3501 South Madison Street, Muncie, Indiana 47302 with Pastor Ben Lang officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Memorial Park. Military Rites will be conducted by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.

Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, at Temple Baptist Church.

Elm Ridge Funeral Home has been entrusted with his arrangements.
