A lifelong sports fan, he loved basketball and cheered loudest for his Indiana teams, especially the Indiana Pacers, Notre Dame, Butler and Indiana Fever. Whether it was college hoops or a nail-biting playoff game, he was always in his element when the ball was bouncing.
His love of speed and thrill extended to the racetrack, where he followed NASCAR with a devoted eye. Sundays in his favorite recliner watching the race—were sacred.
When he wasn’t watching sports, you could often find him at his computer, exploring Facebook. He also loved playing board games with his family, listening to music, and the occasional trip to the casino, where he played with both luck and a smile.
James was a proud member of the Yorktown High Class of 1965. He remained close with his classmates throughout the years, never missing their cherished monthly outings. These gatherings were a source of joy and connection that he looked forward to with great enthusiasm.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army until 1968, where he went on to work for Delco Remy. He retired in 2004 after 38 years of hard work and dedication.
James is survived by his loving daughter, Candace Davis and two nieces, Laurie and Leanne.
He was preceded in passing by his wife, Phyllis Davis; his parents; grandson, Tyler James Davis; sister, Connie Jo Hogue and his furry companions, Chloe and Zoey.
Public visitation will be 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM, Monday, September 15, 2025 at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, IN, 47304, followed by a cryptside service with Military Honors at Elm Ridge Mausoleum.
