Joseph H. Lukens

Joe was born on May 20, 1952, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to John and Mary Lukens. He graduated in 1970 from Muncie Central High School. He worked for the Indiana American Water Company for 35 years where he retired.

He will be remembered as a proud family man and friend. Joe always had a smile on his face, and he never met a stranger. He loved to tell stories and jokes. He would say favorite phrases like, “I’m glad you got to see me again”, “smile, and make it look like it’s their fault”, “Take a break!”, and “I am just a friend of the family”. Joe had several hobbies. He loved to hunt, fish, go to the casino, play the lottery, hunt mushrooms, and spend time with his family and friends.

Joe is survived by his wife, Melissa (Mills); his children, Anthony Dishman (Jeanette), Jo Ellen (Jimmy), and Beth (Jason); several grandchildren; sister, Mary Rooney; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may gather from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana, 47304. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM.
