Joseph “Joe” Kent Williams, 64, of Muncie, Indiana, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, at Ball Memorial Hospital on January 18, 2026, after bravely managing chronic illnesses with strength and resilience. Born in Muncie, he was the beloved son of James (Jim) Williams and Beverly L. Williams (Tomey).
Joe was a cherished father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Kristen K. Williams Everly (Ethan); granddaughters Abby Nelson and Braelyn Williams-Walk; brothers Mark Williams and Kerry Williams (Kelly); nieces Hannah Williams and Brielle Hernandez (Daniel); nephew Bryce Williams; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and niece Courtney Williams.
A 1980 graduate of Yorktown High School, Joe excelled in football, basketball, and baseball, carrying that same competitive spirit and dedication into every aspect of his life. Upon graduating, he worked for Norfolk and Western Railway for several years before working as an electrical linesman and proudly serving as a member of IBEW Local 1393.
Even in the face of physical challenges later in his life, Joe lived with independence, dignity, and a strong sense of self. He loved spending time outdoors, fishing, cooking out, and entertaining friends. An avid gardener, he cultivated a large garden each summer, filled with tomatoes, peppers, and onions that he would later use in making salsa. Joe’s love for the Indianapolis Colts matched his enjoyment of meeting people at his local fruit and vegetable stand. Known as a “wheeler and dealer,” he traveled to Stewart Promotions shows to sell his tools, delighting in making the best deals and often telling his daughter, “I’ll save you money!”—a phrase that reflected his humor, care, and cleverness. He also had a love for comedy, especially Donnie Baker, whom he enjoyed seeing live in 2021.
Joe had a love of being around water. He enjoyed jet skiing and fishing around the Fort Myers and Sanibel Island areas in Florida, and he took great pleasure in boating on his pontoon at Prairie Creek Reservoir. As a reflection of that fondness, his cremated ashes will be scattered in the Gulf of Mexico near Fort Myers.
Joe had a remarkable sense of humor and a gift for making people laugh, finding joy in even the smallest moments. In true Joe fashion, he had to name his mini chihuahua Deisel. His generosity, warmth, and love for his family and friends defined him, and he will be remembered for his joy in life’s simple pleasures and the countless ways he brightened the lives of those around him.
A Celebration of Life in his honor is being planned for Summer 2026 in Muncie, Indiana.
