Karen A. Cooper

Karen Ann Cooper, 77, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at her residence in Muncie. She was born in Muncie, IN, on October 4, 1948, to Robert and Helen (Burdorf) Thesing. On February 5, 1972, Karen married Gary Cooper in Muncie, and he survives.

In her younger years, Karen enjoyed bowling leagues, where she built lasting friendships and shared in laughter and friendly competition. Those connections remained important to her throughout her life. She spent many years working at the credit union, where she formed special bonds with her coworkers. Friday nights were a cherished tradition, gathering with the girls at Pizza King, sharing stories, laughter, and the comfort of routine friendship. She was also a proud member of the Selma American Legion Auxiliary, where she contributed her time and spirit to her community.

Karen’s home was the heart of every holiday. She loved preparing large meals, welcoming family with open arms, and making sure no one ever left hungry. In quieter moments, she found joy reading books on her back patio, often accompanied by the gentle company of her beloved cat. Karen appreciated the beauty of flowers and took delight in their colors and life.

For over 40 years, she was a dedicated member of a Euchre group, faithfully gathering each month with dear friends. These evenings were filled with cards, laughter, and a bond that stood the test of time. Karen had a special gift for bringing people together. Whether it was organizing a gathering, planning a meal, or simply reaching out, she was always the one who made sure connections were kept strong and memories were made. Karen’s greatest joy came from her family, especially her grandchildren. She was their biggest supporter, faithfully attending their activities and celebrating their achievements with pride and love.

Karen’s legacy is one of love, friendship, generosity, and togetherness. She created a lifetime of memories that will be treasured by all who knew her.

Karen is survived by her husband of 54 years, Gary; children, Kelly Cooper and Carrie (Darin) Briar; grandchildren, Samantha and Emily Briar; cousin, Barb Bockenstette; nieces, Kim Hathcock and Lynn Huffman; closest friends, JoEllen, Pam, Shirley, and Sonda; and cat, Maddy.

She was preceded in passing by her parents, brother, David “Dave” Thesing, and beloved cat, Boo.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Aril 25, 2026 from 4 pm until 7 pm at the Selma American Legion Post 437. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Muncie ARF, 1209 W Riggin Rd, Muncie, IN 47303, the Selma American Legion or the Selma Auxiliary, 315 S Albany St, Selma, IN 47383.
