Michael Lee Mertz, 74, passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at Bethel Pointe Health and Rehab in Muncie. He was born Sunday, March 10, 1946, the son of William Mertz and Edith (Taylor) Mertz. He attended Kendallville High School, and then went on to graduate from Ball State University in 1968. Michael received his bachelor degree in Spanish.
Michael married Flora Brasher, and she preceded him in death. He enjoyed fishing, and speaking foreign languages. He was fluent in English, Spanish, and Russian. He also loved his dogs.
Michael is survived by a son, Andrew Mertz; a daughter, Molly Ann Hemmings; step-sons, Leonard Dishman and David Dishman; step-daughter, Connie Lenz; several step-grandchildren; aunt, Anne Gret; and cousins, John Mertz and Linda Horning.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Edith Mertz; and wife, Flora Mertz.
Funeral services will be held for Michael at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2020, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304.
Family and friends may call Friday, before the service, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Elm Ridge Funeral Home. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic a mask is required, and please remember to be safe and adhere to the six foot social distancing.
