 Obituario de Michael Wayne Overmyer
Michael Wayne Overmyer, 57, of Muncie, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. He was born on Wednesday, December 11, 1963, the son of Richard L. Overmyer and Harriet “Jo” (Scherzinger) Overmyer. A resident of Carmel, Mike was born and raised in Muncie, Indiana. He was a 1982 graduate of Muncie Northside High School and received his B.S. in teaching from Ball State University in 1987. While at Ball State, he played catcher for the Ball State Varsity baseball team – a sport and position he loved from childhood. Mike spent much of his career in sales, most recently as Territory Manager for Sharp School Services. He treasured the role and loved working with the Sharp team. He recently was the JV Coach for the Brownsburg Bulldogs baseball team, and prior to that served as an assistant coach at Carmel H.S. Mike was also the varsity tennis coach for Griffith H.S. for several years. Mike had an infectious passion for enjoying life and lived each day to the fullest. He loved anything to do with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, inspired by an early childhood trip to the track with his father. It was one of his fondest childhood memories, which he carried on to his children each May. He was an avid golfer and moonlighted as an occasional pocket fisherman in the water hazards. Through his love of the game, he founded and organized an annual charity golf tournament for the Little Red Door of East Central Indiana in honor of his father, raising critical funds for cancer services. He also loved snowmobiling, and cherished his trips up north to “the farm” with his friends. Family was incredibly important to Mike, and he was surrounded by incredible women who loved him dearly. He is survived by the love of his life, Jane Brooks; daughters, Mackenzie Overmyer of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Jillian Overmyer, West Alexandria, Ohio; and his mother, Harriet Josephine “Jo” Overmyer (Granville “GP” Caldwell) of Muncie. Mike will also be greatly missed by his aunts and uncles, Steve and Cathy Overmyer, Doug and Bobbi Overmyer, and Ruth and Larry Littler. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Leon Overmyer; grandparents, Harry and Dorothea Scherzinger, and Betty and Fred Overmyer. Family and friends may call on Saturday, May 1, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304. Services will be held on Sunday, May 2, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, with Rusty Clements officiating. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, masks and social distancing are required. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Mike by playing a round of golf, going to a concert, or having that second piece of cake. Whatever it may be, there is no doubt he would want everyone to enjoy life to the fullest extent. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.elmridgefuneralhome.com for the family. (written by a fellow coach and friend) Coach Overmyer “When it comes to baseball and coaching the game, one word comes to mind when I think about how Coach Ovy approached the craft…PASSION! He was so in tune with his players and how he wanted them to be the best they could be! That could be seen in every practice and every game. The uniqueness of his approach to coaching was to make every player feel special and he would coach every drill to the utmost of his abilities. He cared deeply for his players!” “It can honestly be said that if you were coached by Coach O, then you were coached with love. Love, not only for the player you want to be, but also for the young man you were meant to be. He coached with dignity, respect and above all else, humor. Like we always said, “It’s a game, why not have fun!!”
