Owen Holland Bigham, 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Yorktown on June 8, 2024. Born in Humphreys County, Tennessee, on February 3, 1936, he is the eldest son of Robert Cecil Bigham and Verlene (Box) Bigham. Owen was raised on a small, rural farm and learned the value of hard work. He enjoyed his schooling, and played varsity football and baseball for Waverly Central High School. After graduation, he moved to Indiana, settling in the Yorktown area. Owen began employment at Delco Battery in 1955.
Owen married Christine (McClain) Bigham, on April 20, 1957. She survives him and they were happily married for sixty-seven years.
Owen made the most of his opportunities and voiced gratitude for the blessings that he enjoyed. He worked for General Motors for forty-five years. Owen started as a dockworker, attended trade school, and then worked in Skilled Trades as a machine repairman until retirement. As a young man, he served in the National Guard. He joined Golden Gloves and enjoyed boxing. Owen played industrial league baseball, and bowled religiously. He obtained his private-pilot license and always farmed on a smaller-scale basis, which continued into retirement.
He was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Owen volunteered with the construction of its first local building on Wheeling Avenue, learning skills he then used in designing and building a home for his family. He worked hard throughout his life and was always ready to help family, friends, and anyone that stood in need.
Owen was preceded in death by his parents; three infant sons; and brother, Robert L. Bigham.
He is survived by his wife, Christine; sons, Thomas Holland (Shauna) Bigham, and Jeffrey Wayne (Deborah) Bigham; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brother, Billy Eugene Bigham.
