Valeta Jean Faulkner

Valeta Jean Halbert Mann Faulkner, 96 years of age, entered into the presence of her Lord on January 14th, 2022. Born on March 22nd, 1925 in Muncie, Indiana to her parents, Denver and Geneva Halbert, she was the mother of five children, Karen Straughn, Susan Hough Mann, Kristin Comte, Cinda (Ron) Rybak and Dr. Thomas Brett Mann. She was the beloved grandmother of nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Her siblings were Norma Hawk Dash, Wanda Armstrong Pickering, Donna Fosnaugh, and Ron Halbert, Sr. She lived a very interesting and blessed life with many accomplishments. She married her childhood sweetheart, Thomas Mann and later as a mother of five, entered Ball State University. An Honors graduate, with a Master’s Degree in English, she taught at Cowan High School. She was active in Yorktown politics as Precinct Committeeman, and Town Clerk. Readers of the Tri-City Journal enjoyed her witty columns under the byline “Doodlin’ By Dee”. She became a widow in 1975 and later was married to John Faulkner. She and John became Florida snowbirds and purchased a home in Fountain View Park, North Ft. Myers where they wintered for many years. While in Florida she enjoyed her time as a volunteer teaching immigrants the English language. The summers shared at her Little Cedar Lake Cottage are cherished memories by her family. For many years as a Yorktown resident she was a member of the Nazarene Church where she came to embrace Jesus Christ as her own personal Savior. She was an accomplished piano player and loved playing and singing the hymns of the Christian Faith. A family reunion was held last fall in honor of Valeta and her sister, Donna. Private services and visitation will be held at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304. Burial will follow in Yorktown Cemetery.
