He was born May 10, 1940, the son of Roy and Mattie Stephens. Wendell retired from Westinghouse. He was an avid fisherman and a big animal lover. More than anything, Wendell loved to be with his family.
Survivors include his daughter, Diana Mitchell (Partner, Ted Thornburg); eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and long-time friend, Andrew Baker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of thirty-five years, Helen Stephens; daughters, Gretta Nelson and Tina Stephens; and son, Wendell Stephens Jr.
