Born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania to the late William and Lena McKay on April 17, 1950, Bill was a lifelong resident of Erie until a recent move to Indiana to be closer to his immediate family.
Bill spent over 50 years in the management and sales division of industrial and commercial coatings. Most of those years were spent with the former Padden’s Paint and Decorating Store in Erie.
He had many friends and family who will remember him for his humor, sharp sense of style, and just being a friendly guy. Everyone who met Bill liked him!
In Erie, he was an active member of St. George Catholic Church and St. Luke Catholic Church in addition to volunteering at the Emmaus Soup Kitchen and other various charities.
Enjoying sports, he coached MYAA baseball, basketball, and football over the years, was an excellent golfer, enjoyed duck pin bowling at the Erie Maennerchor Club, and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and New York Yankees! He also enjoyed NASCAR racing at the Daytona 500 with his son and grandson.
He served as a past president of the Erie Montmarc Condominium Association for 10 years as well as past associate vice president of the Northwest Homebuilders Association. Whatever Bill did, he did with enthusiasm and integrity!
Bill enjoyed traveling with his wife, Marcy, to many destinations especially to London, Paris, and Rome. They delighted in many family vacations to Myrtle Beach, Virginia Beach, and Disney World. Bill loved time with his grandchildren, going to Waldameer and Water World in Erie, attending their various activities, and going on adventures such as kayaking and boating. He was always an active participant with family and appreciated his weekly outings with Marcy and their dear friends over the years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Marcia (Marcy), his son Brian/B.J. (Erica) of Muncie, Indiana, and their children Adrienne, Julian, Isabelle, Lucy, Ambrose, and another on the way this spring, and his daughter Christina Dietz (Ben) of Leesburg, Virginia and their daughter, Eleanor. In Erie, he is survived by his sisters, Nedra Linn (Rick A.) and Donna Cuzzola (Ted M.) and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all!
A special thank you is extended to Dr. Maitri Kalra and Nurse Kylee of Ball Memorial Cancer Center as well as Nurses Jaime and Amy of IU Hospice who all took wonderful care of Bill.
