

Carey “Karo” Thompson, age 79, of Murfreesboro, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at his home with his family by his side. Mr. Thompson was the son of the late Frank and Pearl Thompson of Lebanon, TN. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kaye Thompson; daughter, Karen Thompson Helton; and two granddaughters, Jessica and Sarah Helton. Funeral services will be at Two O’clock the afternoon of Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Roselawn Funeral Home with Thad Austin officiating. Placement will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Thompson was a graduate of Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, where he was on the football team. He graduated from Middle Tennessee State University and was on the football team until an injury shortened his career. Upon graduation, he was a teacher and football coach at Mt. Juliet High School and then moved to Castle Heights Military Academy, where he also coached football. In 1972, his family moved to Murfreesboro and he became a member of the original staff at newly opened Riverdale High School, serving as a Physical Education Teacher, Football Coach and Swim Coach. Mr. Thompson was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church. In lieu of customary floral tributes, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
