Joseph John DiDomenico Sr., age 75, passed away on May 17, 2023. He was born to Peter J. and Shirley Fantone DiDomenico in Pearl River, New York and grew up in Norfolk, Virginia where he graduated from Granby High School in 1966. He received a Bachelor of Psychology from Old Dominion University where he was an active member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Although he recently moved back to Middle Tennessee, he resided in Gibsonton, Florida for over 25 years.
He spent over 50 years serving disability communities in the states of Tennessee, Virginia, and Florida. He was known for being a leader in innovative programs for the disabled and independent living centers. He was highly regarded and respected at the federal, state, and community levels and spent a lifetime advocating for the disabled. He spent the majority of his career as the executive director for the Tennessee Rehabilitation Center in Smyrna, TN and the Disability Achievement Center in the Tampa Bay area.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Sr. and Shirley DiDomenico, and brothers, Peter and Alan DiDomenico. He is survived by brothers and sisters, Mike, Don, Shirley Ann, Lynn, and Dorothy. He is also survived by sons, Joey and wife, Laura DiDomenico and Jamey DiDomenico, and daughter Terri, and husband, Jack Parker. He was known as Granddaddy D to his 12 grandchildren, Derek, Emma, Preston, Anna, Carter, Christian, Laine, Belle, Paige, Joe, Rainey, and Ellie. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues.
The family will be receiving guests at Roselawn Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 24 from Four O’clock until Six O’clock with a Celebration of Life Service at Six O’clock.
