

Ken was born on January 26, 1932 in Los Angeles California. Son of Fred and Audrey Cable, he grew up in Bell Gardens, California. In 1949 Ken enlisted the United States Army and was stationed in Okinawa during the time of the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1952. Ken was married to Dorothy from February 20, 1954 until her death in 2015.
Soon after leaving the Army, Ken joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in June 1953 where he held a number of positions during his 35-year career with the Department. He helped develop the Sheriff's Special Enforcement Bureau in the late 1950s, became the Commander of the Sheriff's Academy and was instrumental in implementing the Sky Knight program at Lakewood Sheriff's Station. He was selected by the Sheriff's Department to attend the FBI National Academy in 1976 for a special training for law enforcement officers. Ken became Chief of the Technical Services Division in 1980, and retired as Chief of Administration in 1988. He earned a Master's Degree in Public Administration from USC and taught criminal science at California State University Los Angeles for a period of time in the 1970s.
Ken enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing in the Sierras as well as motorcycle riding in the desert. He also liked gardening and spending time on his apple orchard in Central California. He was an author, and along with writing some outdoor adventure novels, he wrote several short stories. Ken also wrote various articles for law enforcement publications, local magazines, letters-to-the editor in the Press Enterprise Newspaper and had a regular column the Canyon Lake Friday Flier Newspaper called Wild, Wild Pets.
Ken and Dorothy lived in Southern California and were residents of Canyon Lake for over 40 years, where they served in a number of community services and clubs, as well as with the Chamber of Commerce. They were founding members of the Canyon Lake Fine Arts Guild, and Ken did some writing for the Travel Club. Ken and Dorothy also enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends in Canyon Lake, at their property in central California and at their condominium in Maui.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
